Back in the 1960s, scholars in the field of biochemistry were hard pressed to find
the types of sophisticated equipment they needed for their pioneering research.
Atto Corporation was established as a specialist manufacturer in 1964 to meet their
demands. The company founders had every confidence that the field of biochemistry
was destined to grow. In the four decades since, Atto has invested substantial resources
and money in research and development under the guidance of leading biochemists.
Since our establishment, we have continued to develop, manufacture, and sell biological
macromolecules and analytical products such as chromatographs and electrophoresis
apparatus.
Over the last decade we have also developed and marketed a luminescence device for
the research of gene expression. Our name Atto comes from "atto," an incredibly
small unit equal to 1 x 10-18, or one-quintillionth. Modern scientists and technologists
now hope to delve deeper into exploratory research on the "atto" scale. This is a
field Atto is poised to enter.
In recent years, the Japanese government has begun to promote joint research between
universities and enterprises. However, Atto has been engaged in collaboration with
universities, and has already achieved several fruitful results to date. One of the
results of collaboration won an award from the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports,
Science and Technology in 2001.
